Susan Hosek was an economist at the RAND Corporation from 1973 to 2014. She is currently a member of the RAND adjunct staff. Her health research has focused on issues such as the demand for and provision of veterans’ health care, health insurance benefit design and beneficiary demand for health care, medical staff mix, health information technology, and the organization and management of the military health care system. Her other research has covered a broad range of topics including military/veteran and civilian disability, sexual orientation and military service, and gender differences in federal research grant awards.
She has held several management positions at RAND, directing two research programs and managing the economics and statistics group. She served as research director of the 2007 President's Commission on Caring for America's Returning Wounded Warriors and was a member of the 2003 President's Task Force to Improve Health Care Delivery for Our Nation's Veterans.
