Angela Yang

Administrative Assistant

Angela Yang is a first-year Neuroscience major at UCLA. She is an undergraduate research assistant in the Wilke Lab and helps to study prefrontal circuitry and the role of its dopaminergic projections in effort-based decision making - a mechanism that is often disrupted in neuropsychiatric disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and dementia. She developed her love for collaborative art during her 10 years as both a figure skater and dancer, during which she had the opportunity to represent Canada as a part of the national junior synchronized figure skating team. Moreover, growing up closely with her grandparents has shaped her interest in gerontology, geriatrics, and metal well-being for the diverse older adult population. These distinct interests drew Angela to the Music Mends Minds mission as she explores the bridges between psychiatry and geriatrics and her prospective future career as a physician or physician-scientist.  On campus, Angela is a member of the Neuroscience Undergraduate Society, the UCLA Figure Skating Club, and a hospice volunteer through VITAS and Chapter Compassion.

Anubhav Chandla

Anubhav is a second-year Neuroscience Major at UCLA who has combined his passion for music and medicine by taking part in Music Mends Minds. As a classically trained Indian Classical percussionist since the age of 5, Anubhav has pursued music his whole life and now hopes to utilize his own skills and serve his local community. At UCLA, while pursuing medicine as an aspiring physician-scientist, Anubhav also takes part in various other on-campus activities that revolve around providing care and advocacy for Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Dementia, and Alzheimer's. By being part of Music Mends Minds, Anubhav hopes to give back to his local and global community, while intertwining the fields of science, medicine, and music!

Kayla Arellano

Kayla Arellano is a second-year Neuroscience major at UCLA and an Administrative Assistant for Music Mends Minds. She is currently involved in Dr. Xia Yang’s integrative multiomics and systems biology research lab on campus, where one of their projects targeted key genes potentially amenable to therapeutics post-traumatic brain injury. At UCLA, Kayla is the Professional Development Chair for Neuroscience Undergraduate Society, Patient Transport volunteer at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and member of Interaxon to teach younger students in underfunded schools about the brain. She shares a love for the arts and serves as the choreographer for Resonance a cappella group, National Anthem singer for UCLA athletics, competitive dancer for 10 years, and Miss Anaheim’s Outstanding Teen for 2 years. With a passion for giving back to the community, she is also the founder of Instrumental Outreach: #music4children, where she collects instruments to donate to local school music programs. In the future, her career aspiration is to be a pediatric neurologist and she will be interning for the Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute Program at Children’s Hospital Orange County.
